Happy New Year! I hope everyone had fun welcoming in 2018 and stayed safe while celebrating.
As always, this time of year brings about thoughts and intentions of New Year’s Resolutions. New Year’s Resolutions are a tricky thing. We all go in with good intentions to better ourselves and to make commitments. But how many of us actually keep them throughout the year? I’m not too proud to admit that I’ve failed to keep pretty much all the resolutions I’ve ever tried to make.
This year, I’m going to try and make it different. (And yes, I know that’s so cliche to say when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions, but really this time!) I’m going in with the idea that if I put it out there into the universe, I’ll feel more accountable for my efforts.
This year, I feel like I want to focus on creating healthy, positive habits as well as just creating an overall positive lifestyle for myself.
So, without further ado, here are my “Not-So-New Year’s Resolutions.”
- Take daily vitamins
- Go on a daily, 30-minute walk
- Learn how to cook
- Create a business strategy for the blog and shop
- Journal more
- Take more pictures
- Go to the beach more
- Redo wardrobe
- Put more effort into organizing and decorating
Health & Fitness
My first three resolutions are focusing mainly on overall health and good habits. I turn 30 in a month and I want to make sure I’m being more mindful of my health. Also, I don’t know how to cook! I’m ashamed and not so ashamed to admit that I have little to no cooking skills. I figure I’ll feel more like an adult if I can whip something up in the kitchen, so this going to be the year that I’ll make it happen!
Business & Branding
My fourth resolution is the one I feel will be my biggest challenge and ongoing project. I really want to buckle down on my blogging and my shop. I want to create a better strategy for building up inventory and generating traffic to my shop that will eventually convert into sales. I also want to discover my brand and really dive into blogging more.
Resolutions 5-8 are more for personal reasons and personal wellness. I know that in the recent years, there’s been a trend of focusing on one’s personal wellness and being mindful of your personal well being. I think I’m a very self-aware person and can recognize when I’m taking on a little too much, but I think it’s always nice to make sure to carve out time for myself. I’m hoping that by making them resolutions, they’ll eventually become habits.
My last two resolutions are what I would consider superficial resolutions. I took a lot of time this past year to clean out my wardrobe because I ended up switching rooms in my house. With that, a lot of decluttering ensued not just with clothes but with things in general. I found that I held on to A LOT of clothes that either no longer fit or hadn’t been worn in FOREVER. I also found that I was hoarding so much stuff with little to no places to put them. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that I kind of have a non-existent style both in what I wear and what I display in my rooms. I want to change that and put a little more effort into these things.
I’m excited to go on this journey of really making an extra effort to commit to my New Year’s Resolutions and taking you guys along with me. I can’t wait to see how many of these resolutions I’ll accomplish (or not!) and which habits will end up sticking. Keep an eye out on the blog and my Instagram for updates on how these resolutions are coming along throughout the year.
